51 ft 1958 Classic Timber Yawl "Screamin Eagle"

Screamin' Eagle is an Al Mason designed Offshore Yawl, built in the USA in 1958 with original drawings and specs available.
Construction is dual planked mahogany on oak frames. Bronze fastened. Fibreglass sheathed. 51' x 13'6" x 5'4". Displaces 16.5 ton. 9550lbs external lead. Decks glass over 5/8 marine ply. Deck house and cabin trunk Philippine mahogany

Officially known as design No: 0-47, a 51' shoal draft cruising Yawl, custom designed by renown USA Naval Architect Alvin Mason, for Mr. James Turner & built by William C Bailey of Miami, Florida with a special contract proviso that "All materials in every respect to be of the best quality. " The yacht originally named "Jamel" was launched in 1958, her hailing Port being St. Petersberg, Florida. Designer History Al Mason 1911 -- 1995 Prolific yacht designer with a career spanning classic to modern era. Worked for a number of design firms during his long career including Sparkman & Stephens and Philip Rhodes.

The previous owners, experienced Blue Water Cruisers purchased Jamel, (now renamed "Screamin Eagle") in California 2010; having completed two previous Pacific, USA to Australia crossings & at that time looking to do a third which they completed in "Screamin Eagle" the following year.

Layout - Mahogany steps in offset companionway lead down to accommodations; with teak cabin soles throughout.
Main salon is amidships with nav station, couch and dining table plus small cabin stove for heat.
Step down forward to U shaped galley.
Opposite this is bathroom.
Forward is cabin with double bunk and generous storage lockers.
Forward is V berth.
Forward is chain locker.
Aft of main salon is step down to aft cabin with two bunks fitted with lee boards.
Adjoining is bathroom.
Cockpit is aft


Nanni diesel 60hp fitted 2011 has 160 hours. Folding Kiwi prop new 2011. Aquagen gen-set and watermaker new 2010.
Electronics new in 2010 include Coursemaster autopilot, Garmin GPS & radar, Icom HF with auto tuner and GAM antenna, Uniden VHF, 2500 inverter charger.
Boat rewired 2010 12v/240v. New batteries 2010 1050 amp hours with separate starting battery.


Aluminium mainmast and stainless rigging new 2011. Furling heads'l new 2011. Other sails include Mains'l, Mizzen, Main boom is Sitka Spruce. Mizzen mast and boom are Sitka Spruce.
Lewmar electric windlass new 2010.400' anchor chain with 60lb CQR.
Inflatable dinghy with 5 Hp Yamaha outboard.

Galley has Force 10 three burner grill oven, double sink with pressure water. Eutectic frig and freezer.
Two bathrooms each with heads, showers and basins. Heads are electric macerators. Hot water throughout.
150 US gals diesel. 180 US gals water.

March 2012, the underwater area was stripped back to bare timber, inspected & found to be in a satisfactory condition before being epoxy/f/glass sheathed. All work was carried out by an experienced Timber Boat yard. Works in the last two years by current owners include INTERIOR - Completely stripped, repainted and revarnished - OUTSIDE - Topsides stripped and repainted, decks repainted, Upholstery replaced.
